Morning Glory ‚Heavenly Blue’ (Ipomoea tricolour)

Morning Glory ‚Heavenly Blue’ (Ipomoea tricolour)

Morning glory, in the family Convolvulaceae, contains at least 50 genera and more than 1000 species. These perennial or annual climbing plants come from North America, Asia, South Africa and the West Indies. This group includes the commercially important sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas). Most of these plants, however, are grown for their pretty flowers.

Morning glories have large and gorgeous trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the morning. Each bloom only lasts a day, and the delicate flower fades with the advancing sunlight. The cultivar ‘Heavenly Blue’ has huge, sky blue flowers with yellow throats.

I took the photograph on a bright sunny day with the morning glory blossom still in the shade. As background I use a white photo diffuser which was also in the shade. The pure white background was obtained by placing a white control point in the light gray background of the original photograph. With the subsequent post-processing steps I converted my capture into a high key-type image.

Thanks for visiting everyone. Have a nice weekend!
