Japanese windflower, also called Japanese anemone or Japanese thimble flower, is a herbaceous perennial of the buttercup family. It is native to damp, open woodland areas in Central China, though it has been naturalized in Japan for hundreds of years. In Europe, it is a popular garden plant for a wide range of climates.
Several cultivars are available with different flower colors, ranging from white to deep pink. The single white form is possibly the most graceful in its elegant simplicity.
The fall-blooming anemones stand out as harbingers to summer’s end, welcoming shorter days and cooler weather.
