Bettlachstock – One of the Last Primeval Beech Forests in Europe (3)

Bettlachstock – One of the Last Primeval Beech Forests in Europe (3)

I finally reached the top of Bettlachstock Mountain – panting and sweating. Up there is a grassland plateau with an outer ring of trees; beeches are among them. In the middle of the north rim is a gentle elevation with the actual summit of 1’298 m.

The views from the Bettlachstock Mountain were superb, with the Swiss Plateau [Mittelland] laid out southwards and the spectacular alpine panorama lined up beyond.

My photograph shows the Bernese Alps. From left to right you see the peaks of Wetterhorn [3’692 m], Schreckhorn [4’078 m], Finsteraarhorn [4’273 m], Eiger [3’970 m], Mönch [4’099 m], Jungfrau [4’158 m] and Breithorn [3’780 m].
