Bettlachstock – One of the Last Primeval Beech Forests in Europe (5)

The Wandflue, the fossil-bearing limestone cliffs north of Bettlachstock Mountain, is 2.5 kilometers long; its highest point is 1’399 m above sea level. Below this rock wall, the area is wooded, sloping and almost inaccessible.

During my descent from the Bettlachstock Mountain through steeply sloping terrain on its eastern side I say big, old-looking beech trees from great distance. Getting closer to them for a reasonable photograph was too dangerous for me.
