Doubs Nature Park (1)

The Doubs is a 453-kilometer-long river in East France which strays into West Switzerland. It rises near Mouthe in the French Jura Mountains, at 946 meters above sea level. It is the tenth-longest river in France.

Between Les Brenets und Clairbief – both are French-speaking Swiss towns – the Doubs forms the border between France and Switzerland. This 44-kilometer-long wild and picturesque Doubs valley was declared a nature reserve in 1974. There, the Doubs river presents itself as an untouched, awe-inspiring gorge with lakes, rapids, waterfalls and a pristine forests.

Two days ago I hiked the first 20 kilometer along the Doubs river from Les Brenets to Maison Monsieur. The weather was gorgeous and I was the only human being  on my stretch of the trail. My first photo from this hike shows the entrance into the Doubs valley close to Les Brenets.
