This is my favorite stall of the Christmas market on ‘Münsterplatz’ in Old Town Basel. Taking photographs there is difficult and a real challenge. This is especially true after nightfall. The alleys between the wooden stalls are very narrow and most often alive with people. The differences in light intensity are usually quite extreme from dark shadows to bright spotlights highlighting the wares. Thus, only few of my photographs taken there are presentable.
On ‘Münsterplatz’, and ‘Barfüsserplatz’ at around 150 brightly lit stalls and wooden houses, dealers and handicraft workers from across Switzerland offer their wares. Here, everything is sold from traditional handicrafts to festive trinkets, toys, tourist tat, and delicious local delicacies, such as ‘Bratwurst’ [grilled sausage], honey biscuits, butter cookies and warming ‘Glühwein’ [mulled wine].
