Egyptian Geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) (1)

Egyptian geese – also named Nile geese for their place of origin in the Nile Valley in Africa – are large waterbirds with conspicuous dark chocolate-brown eye patches. They are actually not geese but shelducks, a cross between a duck and a goose.

Egyptian geese occur in various wetland habitats, grasslands or agricultural lands that are close to rivers, dams, lakes, reservoirs, marshes, estuaries, sewage works and, occasionally, offshore islands.
