Borage (Borago officinalis) (1)

Borage, also known as starflower, is an annual herb grown for its many culinary and medicinal uses as well as its surprisingly beautiful blue flowers. The flavor of borage leaves is similar to cucumber and they are often used in salads and soups.

Borage is a really photogenic plant, having hairy stems and buds [see today’s photograph], and star-shaped blue flowers [will be shown tomorrow]. The hairy nature of borage becomes obvious in extreme backlight.
