Twin-Spot Centurion (Sargus bipunctatus) (2)

One of the largest and most attractive soldier flies is the twin-spot centurion (Sargus bipunctatus). Ranging in size from 10 to 14 mm, the veins in their wings are quite distinct.

The male and female differ considerably in appearance: Males are very slim with a metallic green thorax and metallic bronze abdomen. Females have a broader build and an intense brown-red abdomen. Both sexes have orange legs and a pair of whitish spots on the front just above the antennae.
