Twin-Spot Centurion (Sargus bipunctatus) (3)

Twin-spot centurion is a European species of soldier fly which inhabits woods, hedgerows, parks and gardens. It can often be seen sunbathing on foliage in sheltered spots.

The flight period of the twin-spot centurion is from July to October. Adults feed on nectar from flowers, especially hogweed. The larvae feed on decaying organic matter. Larvae have been reared from cow dung, compost, rotting vegetation and decaying fungi.
