Ostrich (Struthio camelus) (3)

The ostrich is the largest bird on our planet. Surprisingly, it cannot fly but run at a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

Ostriches have powerful, long legs that can cover 3 to 5 meters in a single stride. These legs are also impressive weapons. Ostrich kicks can kill a human or a predator like a lion.

Ostriches have only two toes whereas other birds have four. The inner one is massive and has a huge nail that looks like a hoof. It aids in sprinting, which is important for evading predators. The smaller, outer toe acts as an outrigger to keep the ostrich balanced during gradual walks.
