St. Jakob Tower in Basel (1)

The St. Jakob Tower is the eleventh highest building in Basel. Its glass facade rises 70 meters into the air. On its 22 floors it houses office space as well as apartments. The first residents were welcomed in November 2008.

Like the Roche Tower, the St. Jakob Tower is the work of the Basel-based architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, who gilded their international reputation with the success of their ‘Bird’s Nest National Stadium’ for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The St. Jakob Tower is the landmark of the ‘St. Jakob Park’ [a soccer stadium and a shopping mall]. Like a city gate it represents an eye-catching entrance to Basel from the motorway. The tower is particularly noticeable because of its special shape, which appears different from each of the four points of the compass.
