Because it is difficult to predict when and where the next rocket will explode, photographing fireworks is a lot of guesswork. Thereafter, one has to point the lens in that direction without altering the manual focus and release the shot. And all this with the camera on a tripod in total darkness surrounded by a densely packed crowd of spectators. I am always happy when a handful of photos turn out all right.
