I, the photographer, always stood with my feet on the ground. The riders performed their wild dance above me. The photos were taken with my hand-held camera.
Before I was able to take the photograph you see here, I studied the complex motion choreography of ‘Der Burner’ thoroughly. I went there at least half a dozen times – I live close by – and took test photos. My efforts were rewarded: I finally understood where to point my camera and when to press the release button.
