Snow Hike in the Swiss Jura Mountains (15)

Because of a recent change in weather – winter has finally arrived here at elevations above 500 meters – I went on a snow hike in the Swiss Jura mountains.

I had selected a hiking route on one of the Jura mountain folds. The ‘Blauen Crest Trail’ is about 15 km long, with a gradual ascent and a steep but shorter descent. Its highest point is 837 meters above sea level.

At its eastern end, the village Grellingen is located, at its western end Mariastein with a beautiful monastery and church. The former village can be reached from my home by a 20-minute train ride, the latter is connected to Basel by bus and trolley.

At the trailhead, the conditions were perfect for a day in the Swiss winter wonderland. But see for yourself!
