The spring snowflake has small, underground bulbs up to 3 cm in diameter. The leaves appear during the flowering period. The flower-stalk is 15-25 cm long, usually exceeding the leaves in length. The flowers are solitary and bell-shaped. They are white with a greenish spot at the end of each tepal and have a pleasant scent reminiscent of violet.
The spring snowflake flowers from February to April and is pollinated by bees. The seeds are whitish and measure around 7 mm. They have an outgrowth that is attractive to ants, which are allegedly the dispersal agents.
Attention: All parts of the plant are poisonous!
