Lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria) (2)

Lesser celandine emerges earlier than most spring ephemerals and may displace and prevent them from co-occurring. These native wildflowers are a source of nectar for bees and other insects in the early spring.

Due to its ephemeral nature and capacity for vegetative reproduction, lesser celandine can be challenging to control. Small infestations can be removed manually, though care must be taken to completely remove the tubers from the soil.
