Poppy ‘Violet’ (Papaver somniferum) (3)

The poppy blossoms in our garden have already faded. Time is flying very fast.

The seed pods can be collected and dried now. They are suitable as decorative ornaments. The pods contain hundreds of tiny black seeds, which are edible in some species. Today’s photo shows a seed pod from above.

You can tell when pods are ripe by shaking the stem. If the pods rattle, it is time to harvest. Usually this is 80 to 90 days after sowing.
