Daybreak in the Petite Camargue Alsacienne (6)

The nature reserve ‘Petite Camargue Alsacienne’ is located in the south of Alsace in France. It covers a total of 900 hectares. The site is open all year round to the public, on either a ‘go as you please’ basis or for guided tours. It includes several marked-out trails.

The Petite Camargue Alsacienne is the oldest nature reserve in the tri-country region, where France, Switzerland and Germany come together. Today, an association of ecologists and scientists handles the running of this nature reserve, with the aim of preserving the biological diversity of the Rhineland environment.

I live close to the Petite Camargue Alsacienne. From my home in Basel, it is a half hour bike ride to the visitor center. Previous Saturday I went there an hour before sunrise to watch and listen to the awakening nature.
