The great white pelican has a white plumage with a pink tint. In the breeding season, the large bird takes on a darker pinkish flush and there is usually a yellow wash on the breast.
Long and bushy feathers make up its white crest which adorns its head. The body feathers of the great white pelican are creamy white with black-tipped wings. Immature great white pelicans are gray and have dark flight feathers.
Basel Zoo has a large flock of great white pelicans. They are very social birds and fun to photograph.
