Persian Buttercup (Ranunculus asiaticus)

Persian Buttercup (Ranunculus asiaticus)

Persian buttercup is a tuberous-rooted plant native to Southeast Europe and Asia Minor, Turkey and North Africa. Its cultivation goes back more than 350 years when the first plants were brought to Europe from the Levant [the old name for regions bordering the eastern Mediterranean].

Persian buttercup is an herbaceous perennial which flowers from spring to summer. It reaches a height of about 45 cm, and its beautiful, full-bodied blooms consist of many crepe paper-like petals. The color of the symmetrical, rose-like blossoms can range from pale pink through fuchsias, oranges and gold to pure white.
