Meret Oppenheim Tower in Basel (2)

The form of the Meret Oppenheim Tower is the result of stacking volumes of different sizes. This process generates various terraces, platforms, gaps and other outdoor and indoor spaces. These elements give the building its specific appearance.

A folding and sliding shutter system forms the outer shape and appearance of the building. Placed just behind these movable sun protection elements is a balcony layer that creates depth on all sides of the building.

The appearance of the building is changing not only from different perspectives, but also throughout day and night. Changes happen not only by its users – they open or close shutters – but also through external influences such as sunlight or wind.

I know only very little about modern Architecture, but am fascinated by Basel‘s new and unusual / futuristic-looking buildings. When I look at them, I have a hard time finding words for what I see. Thus, my photo captions are bits and pieces of text from the internet.
