Decorated trailers pulled by trucks or tractors are essential elements in Basel’s carnival procession. In these large trailers are usually Waggis (a dominant, raw, and rude figure, see photograph) throwing oranges, sweets, flowers or other treats to (or at) the crowd. The Waggis also shower bystanders with copious amounts of confetti.
