Basel Carnival (Basler Fasnacht – Morgestraich) (3)

From 4 am on Monday, many restaurants and bars in Old Town Basel open their doors and remain open for the following 72 hours. There they serve traditional carnival specialties, such as flour soup (‘Mehlsuppe‘, a hearty broth made from flour and onion), along with onion and cheese pies (‘Zwiebelkuchen’ and ‘Käsewähe’).
