French Angelfish (Pomacanthus paru) (1)

French Angelfish (Pomacanthus paru) (1)

The French angelfish has a laterally compressed body, it is almost circular in shape. The French angelfish has a dark body with scales edged in bright yellow [on my photos and on most photos on the internet the edges are white].

The head of the French angelfish has a short snout ending in a small mouth which contains numerous bristle-like teeth. Its tail is rounded, its eyes are surrounded yellow. Adult French angelfish may reach a maximum length of 60 cm.

The French angelfish occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean from Florida and the Bahamas, and south to Brazil. Its range also includes the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

The photo was captured with a hand-held camera in the aquarium of Basel Zoo.
