Flowing Water in the Black Forest (2)

In the Black Forest – between Todtnauberg [1’021 m] and Todtnau [660 m] – Germany’s highest natural waterfall is located. It falls 97 m over several cascades. There is a romantic route with bridges and staircases which leads along the falls.

Today’s picture shows the upper cascade of the falls. It was taken with a uniform 0.9 ND Lee filter. A tripod, a cable release and the camera’s ‘mirror-up’ function were also used.

[‘Mirror-up’ function: The mirror will flip up first before the shutter is released, giving the camera time to dissipate its vibration.

Neutral density filters reduce the amount of light passing through the lens and hitting the camera’s sensor. They are said to be ‘neutral’ because they do not affect the colors in the resulting pictures, they filter out all colors equally. Uniform neutral density filters are often used to achieve motion blur effects.]
