The hummingbird hawk-moth is native to the northern Old World from Portugal to Japan. However, it breeds mainly in warmer climates, such as Southern Europe, North Africa, and places east.
The hummingbird hawk-moth is a summer visitor to places north of the Alps, migrating from Southern Europe each year. In its summer residence, it can be very common and may be seen in parks and gardens. There, it feeds on the nectar of flowers that have a long corolla, such as honeysuckle, red valerian and others.
If climate change carries on at this pace, it won’t be long until this moth becomes a permanent resident of Central Europe.
