Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) (1)

Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) (1)

The snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) is a small bulbous plant, which flowers in February and March. The narrow leaves are bluish-green in color. The leaf-tips are hardened in order to break through frozen ground.

The delicate-looking, solitary, pendant, white flowers have six petal-like segments. The three outer ones are always longer than the inner ones and are solid white. The three inner ones are notched at the tip and are marked with green around this notch.

The photo of the snowdrops was taken in our garden yesterday
