Tree Fly (Dryomyza anilis) (2)

One defining characteristic of Dryomyza anilis is the males’ territorial behavior. Males defend egg-laying females as well as small carcasses where females feed and lay their eggs. Larger males are more likely to win resource conflicts, and the largest males tend to hold territories. Females lay several batches of eggs on carcasses, fungi, and excrement as well as other substrates.
