Common Frog (Rana temporaria)

The common frog is widespread in Europe. Its relatively smooth skin varies in color and can lighten or darken to blend in with the surroundings. It has a dark patch behind the eyes.

The frog prefers to be in cool, moist conditions where it preys on invertebrates like slugs, snails, worms and insects, trapping them with its long, sticky tongue.

The common frogs is an amphibian. It comes to ponds to breed during the spring and spends the rest of the year in fields, woods and gardens.
