The Black Forest is a mountain range in Southwest Germany. It is known for its dense forest of evergreen conifers, mainly pine, spruce and fir. The Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest (1,493 m). In its vicinity there is a large network of posted hiking trails and several huts with indoor and outdoor restaurants, making it a great area for hiking excursions. From Basel, where I live, it takes me about 2 hours by public transportation (streetcar, train and bus) to get to the foot of the Feldberg.
