Graffiti are cross-cultural phenomena common to every literate society, likewise in Basel, where I live. To my opinion, they are an art form worth looking at. I love their rich colors and the varying designs. I feel a vibrant energy, which some radiate. In Basel, interesting graffiti can be found along the main train lines where, I assume, spraying is illegal. Basel also has a few places where graffiti paintings are tolerated, such as the walls of youth centers and the outer walls of the public swimming pool ‘Bachgraben’. At a place close to the ‘Schänzli’, a trotting circuit in the eastern parts of Basel, the walls of an outdoor streetcar depot are regularly repainted. I often visit these places and photograph the graffiti, which I like.
