The dock bug, also named brown squash bug, is an herbivorous, true bug. It feeds primarily on docks and sorrels and can be found in parks, gardens, scrub, and grasslands. It is common and widespread, found all over Europe and parts of North America.
The dock bug is a mottled reddish-brown squash bug with a broad, oval abdomen. The antennae are composed of four segments, red orange in color except for the final segment which is black. Adults are between 13 to 15 mm long. Males are typically smaller than females but have longer antennae.
