Lesser Stag Beetle (Dorcus parallelipipedus) (2)

The white, C-shaped larvae of lesser stag beetles live three or four years in the rotten wood of deciduous trees, especially of ash, beech and apple. On maturity they pupate within the timber and emerge as the adult beetle in Spring or Summer.
