Delta Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum raddianum) (1)

Delta maidenhair fern is one of the most popular ferns to grow indoors. The delicate, evergreen plant with gorgeous green leaves is native to tropical and subtropical South America. It grows terrestrially or on rocks and erects arching fronds out of short rhizomes. The plant has been quite widely introduced elsewhere as an ornamental and now occurs in Asia, Africa and the Pacific. It is invasive in Hawaii and French Polynesia.

Adiantum raddianum’s common name comes from its shiny, dark leafstalks that resemble human hair. The triangular fronds are semi-erect in the beginning then droop gracefully as they age.
