Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia) (4)

Mexican sunflowers are one of my favorite plants in our garden. They are prolific bloomers with warm, vivid colors of yellow, orange, and red. They are easy to grow and have a long blooming season. Besides being beautiful, they attract bumblebees and butterflies.

Mexican sunflowers can be started from seeds after the last frost. For the most prolific display of blooms, sow them in a spot that receives full sun (at least 6 hours daily). Deadheading spent flowers will prolong blooming. The flowers are followed by grey to black flattened triangular seeds that are easy to collect.
