Papaver somniferum, commonly known as bread seed poppy or opium poppy, is the species of plant from which both poppy seeds and opium are derived. It is also a valuable ornamental plant, grown in gardens. Its native range is probably the eastern Mediterranean, but is now obscured by ancient introductions and cultivation, being naturalized across much of Europe and Asia.
With exception of the seeds, all parts of the plant are very poisonous. My photograph shows a seed capsule from above.
