In the heart of Basel’s Old Town, on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, two Christmas markets are located. At around 150 brightly lit stalls and wooden houses, dealers and handicraft workers from across Switzerland and the region offer their wares from the end of November until Christmas. Here, everything is sold from traditional handicrafts to festive trinkets, toys, tourist tat, and delicious local delicacies, such as ‘Bratwurst’ [grilled sausage], honey biscuits, butter cookies and warming ‘Glühwein’ [mulled wine].
