Wolf Spider (2)

Wolf Spider (2)

Wolf spiders are common and widespread. They go through a life cycle of several stages. Spiderlings hatch from eggs and go through several molts before reaching adulthood. Mature spiders can be found from May to September.

As is usual for most wolf spiders, they do not build nets or hideouts consisting of webs. Instead, they are ground-running hunters that track down their prey with the help of their well-developed sense of sight and then grab it at lightning speed.

Hundreds of them can be seen running across the leaf litter in the woods on warm days, especially in spring. This is also where they overwinter.

Tarantulas also belong to the wolf spiders. However, the wolf spider living in Central Europe is completely harmless.
