Forget-me-nots, scientifically known as Myosotis, are charming, delicate flowers that bloom in a variety of colors, including blue, pink, and white. The leaves of many of the varieties are soft and hairy and resemble the ears of a mouse.
There are about 50 species of forget-me-nots, with the most common being Myosotis sylvatica. The genus is largely restricted to western Eurasia.
Most types of forget-me-nots are short-lived perennials, grown as biennials. This means that they begin to grow in the first year, and flower and die in their second year. They are sometimes thought of as perennials because they seed themselves freely, reappearing year after year.
Most Myosotis flowers are usually no more than 1 cm across and consist of 5 flattish sky-blue petals, and a yellow center. They are produced from early spring until early summer.
