Jonquil (Narcissus jonquilla) (1)

Jonquil, also known as rush daffodil, is a bulbous plant of the genus Narcissus (daffodil). Jonquil is native to Spain and Portugal but has become naturalized in other parts of the world.

Jonquil is a perennial showy herb that grows up to 30 cm tall. Its leaves are narrow and rush-like. Jonquil blooms in mid-spring with 1 to 5 fragrant golden-yellow flowers per stem.

Jonquil has been cultivated in France since the 18th century. Its oil is used as an important component of many modern perfumes.

The jonquil bloom was captured in a cold house of the botanical garden of the University of Basel.
