Common Wallflower (Erysimum cheiri) (3)

Wallflowers have a two-year life cycle. They grow from seeds only leaves in the first season. Then in the second season, they bloom, seed, and die with the first frost. Wall flowers in warmer places are perennials, returning year after year.

Wallflowers thrive in limey, slightly alkaline conditions, and often gain a foothold in sunny spots in lime mortar; hence their name ‘wallflower’.
