The Large Mythen hike starts in the small village of Brunni. From there a short cable car ride takes hikers to Holzegg, where the path to the summit begins.
Within a few minutes, the trail turns into a series of hairpins [47 altogether] winding their way up a seemingly impossibly steep mountainside. The trail is in large parts rocky [see today’s photo], with exposed sections with steep drop offs. The most exposed parts have guard rails; other sections have chains.
Don’t forget, the trail up is also the trail down. On busy days this may cause unplanned ‘hiking jams’. Thus, if possible, avoid weekends for this adventure.
