Today’s photo shows the ‘Pavillon des Sonneurs’ at the banks of the Doubs close to the hamlet of Maison Monsieur.

Maison Monsieur, nowadays a hotel and a restaurant, is a former customs and ferry station. The hotel consists of a building with rooms and another building with a dormitory, both with a shared bathroom. The restaurant serves breakfast and a small menu of Swiss and French dishes, including trout. The Maison Monsieur bus stop is 300 meters from the hotel. It connects to La Chaux-de-Fonds station or the nearby town of Biaufond.

When I was there, the hotel and the restaurant seemed to be close. There is no bus in the off-season; I had to walk to the train station of La Chaux-de-Fonds.]

The Pavillon des Sonneurs was built 1841 as meeting place of the ‘Friends of the Radical Patriots of Neuenburg’. The name ‘Sonneurs’ refers to the sound of the bell, with which the ferryman was called.

This is the last picture I will be putting up from my recent hike along the Doubs. I enjoyed it very much! The walk along the banks of this beautiful river felt like a journey through a world where time seems to stand still.
