Gänsbrunnen (700 m above sea level) is a small village in the canton of Solothurn. It has less than 100 inhabitants, even so, it has a train station.
In Gänsbrunnen I started the day hike. The highest point of my tour was Hasenmatt summit [1’444 m above sea level]. From there I walked to Weissenstein. A cable car brought me back to the train line to Basel (where I live).
Hasenmatt is the culminating summit of the Weissenstein ridge and a real highlight of the Jura High-Altitude Trail. The views from there are often superb, with the whole Swiss Plateau [Mittelland] laid out southwards and the spectacular alpine panorama lined up beyond.
Today’s image was captured halfway up between Gänsbrunnen and Hasenmatt. As you can see, I was still in the fog.
