Autumn Hike in the Swiss Jura (5)

Castle Wildenstein is situated south of Basel between the villages of Bubendorf and Lampenberg. It survived the terrible earthquake of Basel in 1356 and is therefore one of the very few castles in our region not in ruins. It is listed as a heritage site of national significance.

Castle Wildenstein had a turbulent history and its owner changed very often. In 1995, the Canton Basel-Land bought it, with the aim of preserving this unique example of medieval architecture for generations to come. The tower containing the erstwhile living quarters dates back to the 13th century and can be visited occasionally.
